Featured Plants

Rhododendron 'PJM Elite', Pieris ‘Variegata’ or Pieris ‘Dorothy Wycoff’

These are among the first shrubs to bloom in the spring; planted with daffodils they make a breathtaking display. After the blooms have faded they reward you with great foliage the rest of the year.

Rhododendron ‘PJM Elite’ provides four seasons of interest. In the spring, P.J.M Elite is covered with masses of gorgeous blooms of brilliant fuchsia. Even the foliage on the P.J.M. is lovely. In the summer, the leaves are dark green and as autumn approaches, the P.J.M. offers up one last blast of color as the foliage transitions to mahogany for the winter months. This dense, rounded shrub grows 4-5 feet tall and wide.

Pieris 'Variegata’ is covered in beautiful, drooping clusters of white flowers in early spring. The attractive green foliage with creamy white variegation emerges with a pink tint to new growth. Mature size is 5 feet tall and wide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu7dGk-cL9U&feature=youtu.be

Pieris ‘Dorothy Wycoff’ has deep-red winter buds that open to pale-pink flowers that bow down from pinkish branches in early spring. Reddish new growth matures to lustrous, dark green. It matures to 5 feet tall by 3 feet wide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZzMKwWoEmU&feature=youtu.be

This trio likes an acidic, humus rich soil with good drainage. It prefers morning sun and afternoon protection. The addition of Coast of Maine’s Compost and Peat Hummus when planting is beneficial to establish plants. Fertilize in the spring with Holly-tone and mulch with Coast of Maine Compost and Peat Humus.
